High-Performance Belt-Drive Turntable With Jmw-9 Uni-Pivot Tonearm
The VPI Scout 21 is the current evolution of VPI's Scout platform, combining a substantial machined-aluminium platter, isolated 300 RPM motor housing, improved isolation feet and VPI's JMW-9 uni-pivot tonearm. It is designed as a serious high-end analogue playback platform with a straightforward mechanical architecture and a clear upgrade path.
The Scout 21 uses a vinyl-wrapped MDF and steel chassis and an 11.5-inch, 10.5 lb aluminium platter. Its JMW-9 tonearm provides adjustable counterweight, azimuth side weights and VTA adjustment, allowing the turntable to be carefully configured for the cartridge being used.

Evolution Of The Scout Platform
The Scout 21 takes design cues from VPI's Prime Scout while continuing the company's established Scout philosophy. VPI specifically identifies the improved 300 RPM motor housing and improved isolation feet as developments over its predecessor.
The result is a substantial analogue platform focused on stable platter rotation, mechanical isolation and precise tonearm adjustment rather than unnecessary complexity.
Precision Jmw-9 Uni-Pivot Tonearm
The supplied JMW-9 tonearm uses a uni-pivot bearing design with a 223 mm pivot-to-spindle distance and 240.7 mm effective length. VPI specifies an effective mass of 10.2 g, 17.7 mm overhang and a 22.85-degree offset angle.
The arm includes an adjustable drop counterweight, azimuth side weights and VTA adjustment, allowing cartridge alignment and tracking geometry to be carefully optimised.
Solid Aluminium Platter & Belt Drive
The Scout 21 employs an 11.5-inch, 10.5 lb aluminium platter driven by a 300 RPM motor. VPI specifies motor-pulley accuracy of ±0.0005 inch, wow and flutter of 0.08%, speed accuracy of 0.08% and rumble of 78 dB down.
The combination of platter mass, belt drive, isolated motor housing and rigid chassis provides the mechanical foundation for precise analogue playback.
Upgradeable Analogue Platform
The Scout 21 is designed to remain useful as an analogue system develops. VPI lists upgrade options including the Prime Platter, JMW-9-3D Tonearm, Analog Drive System (ADS), Signature Center Weight and VTA On the Fly Arm Base.
These options allow owners to progressively refine the turntable rather than replacing the complete platform when upgrading other parts of the system.
