Lehmann Audio Black Cube Ii Phono Preamplifier

High-Performance Mm/Mc Phono Stage For Precision Vinyl Playback

The Lehmann Audio Black Cube II is a high-performance phono preamplifier designed to extract the full musical information stored in vinyl records. Supporting both MM and MC cartridges, it combines ultra-precise passive RIAA equalisation, low-noise amplification and extensive cartridge loading flexibility in a compact, meticulously engineered design.

Building on the proven Black Cube family, the Black Cube II brings together the performance of Lehmann Audio's established phono stage architecture with premium connectors, a non-magnetic aluminium enclosure and flexible adjustment options for a wide range of modern and classic pickup systems.

Key Features

  • MM & MC Compatibility – Designed to work with a wide range of moving-magnet and moving-coil cartridges.

  • Ultra-Precise Passive RIAA Equalisation – Uses a high-quality passive RIAA filter network positioned between two linear gain stages for accurate equalisation and excellent transient response.

  • Four Gain Settings – Selectable gain of 36 dB, 46 dB, 56 dB or 66 dB for flexible system matching.

  • Flexible Cartridge Loading – Supports 47 kΩ, 1 kΩ and 100 Ω input impedance, plus custom load configuration.

  • 16-Position Bass Filter – Allows the low-frequency response to be tailored across sixteen settings between approximately 7 Hz and 90 Hz.

  • Low-Noise Design – Carefully engineered audio circuitry and additional suppression measures help maintain a clean and quiet signal path.

  • Custom Impedance & Hardwire Slots – Provides advanced cartridge matching options for specialist MM and MC applications.

  • Premium Construction – Non-magnetic aluminium housing with a mechanically damped top cover helps reduce microphony and unwanted resonances.

  • Made in Germany – Designed and manufactured with Lehmann Audio's precision engineering approach.

Designed For Serious Vinyl Playback

A phono stage is one of the most critical components in an analogue playback system. The Black Cube II is engineered to preserve the delicate signal from the cartridge while providing the gain and equalisation required to connect it to a line-level amplifier.

Its carefully designed dual-stage architecture and passive RIAA network are focused on accurate signal reproduction, allowing the character of the cartridge, tonearm and turntable to be presented with clarity, dynamics and musical precision.

Precision Riaa Equalisation

The Black Cube II uses an ultra-precise passive RIAA filter network positioned between two linear gain stages. The network is built using high-quality, closely tolerated polypropylene foil capacitors selected for their transient performance and precision.

This architecture allows the phono stage to provide accurate equalisation while maintaining a clean and natural presentation across the audible frequency range.

Flexible Cartridge Matching

Different cartridges require different electrical loading and gain conditions. The Black Cube II provides a wide range of adjustment options to help optimise compatibility with both MM and MC pickup systems.

With selectable gain settings, multiple input impedance options, custom loading capability and a dedicated hardwire slot, the Black Cube II can be configured for a broad range of cartridge designs and specialist analogue systems.

16-Setting Bass Filter

The integrated bass filter provides sixteen different settings between approximately 7 Hz and 90 Hz. This allows the low-frequency response to be tailored to the specific requirements of a cartridge, record collection or listening environment.

The adjustable filter can also help manage unwanted very-low-frequency energy while maintaining the musical integrity of the audible bass range.

Premium, Low-Resonance Construction

The Black Cube II uses a non-magnetic aluminium housing with a mechanically damped top cover designed to minimise microphony and unwanted resonances.

Gold-plated RCA connectors, a shielded power supply cable and a carefully optimised dual-sided audio board contribute to the product's clean signal path and refined construction quality.
